Dizzy's Surgery

Organized by Aiding Animals

About Dizzy...
Folks, your help is sorely needed, Dizzy, the little Chihuahua that an owner was turning into BARC was intercepted by me this past Sunday.

We got Dizzy to a vet for a preliminary diagnosis, he was stabilized, and referred to a surgeon. Yesterday, he went to the surgeon, Dr. Garza, and the x-rays that were taken duringthe evaluation, we found that his tail was removed (badly) and his urethra and sheath of the penis were ruptured probably due to blunt force trauma.

(If congenital, would have been sterile--no infection/raw skin, per the veterinarian.)

The plan for Dizzy is as follows: Surgery on Monday to put penis back into sheath. (too bloody and traumatic toremove). Several stitches in rear to make urinating easier (will urinate like a female from here on).

Ruptured urethra will heal exposed and will just be a hairless line eventually. Will Neuter during surgery--is more complicated, testicles up higher and inside
abdomen skin.

Prognosis: With surgery, good. There is blood in urine andinfection but no fracture of bones, other than funny/strange removal of tail. He may have a limp but we are looking at proceeding with cold laser therapy to address that at a later time. Have to wait until after surgery and recovery (a week or two) before deciding that.

The cost to help Dizzy will be around $1000 and this is what we need help with. Dizzy is currently with a foster until he goes to surgery on Monday and then will remain in hospitalized after that for a few days.
